Salary: $65-85K 

Job Summary of the Design Engineer:  The  Design Engineer is responsible for executing new product project activities and completing tasks in coordination with the APQP Engineering/Innovation Manager. The position should interact closely with the APQP Engineering/Innovation Manager and team members of New Products as well as other departments and groups. Electrical and Mechanical engineering tools and computer modeling skills will be frequently used in this position.  This Senior Innovation Design Engineer will be responsible for concept development for future product platforms in anticipation of subsequent company needs combining electrical and mechanical solutions into electromechanical concepts. 

  Job Responsibilities of the Design Engineer: 

·    Support and complete program and project deliverables in a timely and cost-efficient manner to fulfill customer and/or company product development goals.

·         Perform mechanical engineering analysis to support existing products and develop new concepts to improve functionality, reduce costs, increase performance, and simplify manufacturability of resulting products.

·   Responsible for brainstorming and support of innovative new product design. These new products should consist of new and existing materials and production methodologies and combine new and existing technologies into future marketable products.

·    Responsible for the brainstorming of new ideas and the generation of concepts in coordination with all product lines.

·    Support research of marketing, technical, economic and manufacturing feasibility for these new ideas.

·  Support and help facilitate program and project management tasks for specific customers, but also develop concepts and products in coordination with company product line plan strategies.

·   Support concept development by investigating different materials, purchased components, and manufacturing processes.  

· Responsible for design and management support of programs and projects assigned within the Corporate Technology work group.  

·  Work with sales and customers to determine key elements of the project. 

·  Responsible for electrical and mechanical engineering techniques and analysis skills to design activities. Design requirements for electrical and mechanical specifications.  

·     Complete design layouts, BOM, and drawing content for products recently released.

Education & Experience of the Design Engineer:

·  Must be computer proficient and must fully understand software applications necessary for the successful completion of their job functions.

·  Experience with Creo/Windchill.

·   Understanding of Creo software, and ability to create, update, and finalize models.

·  Understanding of Windchill software, and ability create, update, and finalize Windchill data.

·  30 G - Comprehensive understanding of Inertial Calculations in order to convey and complete with outside resources.

· Tolerance Analysis - Mid-level understanding of tolerance stack calculations as applicable to product design and detailing, including the use of Six Sigma Design Tools.

·  Spring  Analysis - Comprehensive understanding how to conduct spring stress analysis to prevent spring failures due to excessive stress.

·  Mechanics of materials - Comprehensive understanding and ability to engineer and design products using strength of material strategies.

· Mechanical Advantage/Travel Analysis - Comprehensive understanding and ability to create, update, and finalize a kinematic analysis.

·   Basic understanding and knowledge of GD&T application and use.

·   Basic understanding of reliability/confidence levels and application to design verification and validation.

·    Comprehensive understanding of Dept. 111 work instructions and forms pertaining to job functions, including ECN activities.

·    Drafting standards understanding of ECN and project development print checking requirements/checklists.

· APQP - Basic understanding and ability to participate in cross-functional teams constructing Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (PFMEA).

·   Comprehensive understanding and the ability to participate in cross-functional teams constructing Design Failure Modes Effects Analysis (DFMEA).

· Comprehensive understanding and ability to assist in the creation, updating, and finalizing of a Design Process Assembly Review (DPAR) document.

·  Basic understanding and ability to support SPMs, Project Engineers, and Product Managers with product ideas and potential improvements.
