Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Department: Engineering
Reports to: Engineering Manager
Position Overview:
The manufacturing engineer is primarily tasked with the assistance of
both engineering and production personnel to ensure that conforming
products are shipped to the customer base at minimal
cost and lead time. The successful candidate shall provide analytical
and strategic support to manufacturing operations, serve as liaison
between engineering and production departments, and troubleshoot
problems resulting from in-process product nonconformances.
Essential Job Functions:
- Interface with process engineers and production personnel to
troubleshoot issues arising from manufacturing operations
- Investigate nonconformances
- Implement corrective actions
- Work with management to efficiently optimize and execute workflow
schedules resulting from planned manufacturing sequences and lead
times to expedite production operations
- Work with management to coordinate quality control objectives and
activities to resolve production problems, maximize product
reliability, and minimize cost
- Design novel tooling as necessary
- Consult on the need for new hob cutters, shaper cutters, and
grinding wheels
- Verify operational requirements prior to machine tool setup
- Provide technical support for machine tool setup
- Work with department management to maximize department productivity
- Advise Director of Manufacturing of departmental training needs;
conduct training when appropriate
- Employ a multitude of inspection techniques to measure part and
assembly features
- Assist in determining tooling and fixturing needs
- Analyze dimensional changes resulting from special processes
- Analyze blueprints and work instructions
- Complete all necessary paperwork as required in a timely & accurate
manner

Qualifications:
Skills/Requirements:
- Knowledge of inspection and measurement; recognition of appropriate
technique and repeatability is essential
- Ability to assess machine tool capabilities
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Working knowledge of practical material characteristics, including,
but not limited to, hardness and machineability
- Working knowledge of special processes, especially the thermal
treatment of steel
- Ability to efficiently communicate technical information
- Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses in company personnel
- Basic math & geometry skills
- At least 5 years of experience in precision-machined component
manufacturing with strong preference to gear manufacturing
