About the Role

The Crops Grower oversees the daily management of all specialty crop programs and is accountable for the performance of organic, regenerative, and conventional produce operations. This role leads crop production from planting through harvest, ensuring optimal crop health, effective nutrient management, and seamless execution of field activities. Working collaboratively with the crops team, the Crops Grower provides technical expertise and hands-on leadership to achieve high-yield, high-quality results.

Key Responsibilities
Crop & Fertility Management

Develop and implement agronomic plans focused on fertility, soil health, and plant nutrition.

Monitor crop development and adjust strategies based on soil testing, tissue analysis, and environmental conditions.

Collaborate with the Crops Technician to plan and execute precise, timely fertilizer and input applications.

Diagnose nutrient deficiencies, pest pressures, and disease concerns; implement corrective actions promptly.

Stay current on agronomic innovations, products, and technologies to enhance productivity and sustainability.

Team Leadership & Coordination

Lead, train, and manage daily crop operations.

Coordinate field activities including planting, cultivation, irrigation, fertility, and pest management.

Ensure safe, efficient, and timely execution of all fieldwork.

Promote a positive, accountable team culture emphasizing safety, productivity, and collaboration.

Harvest, Logistics & Recordkeeping

Oversee harvest operations, including timing, labor coordination, equipment logistics, and quality control.

Maintain accurate harvest recordsyields, field conditions, and operational performance.

Partner with post-harvest and logistics teams to ensure smooth handling, delivery, and storage.

Maintain detailed records of all field operations, fertility applications, and yield data.

Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal agricultural and environmental regulations.

Demand Planning, Customer Service & Continuous Improvement

Lead demand planning and forecasting by aligning planting schedules with customer contracts and delivery timelines.

Provide in-season updates to customers and internal stakeholders.

Accurately predict crop maturity and yields to fulfill customer commitments.

Oversee logistics coordination between customers, carriers, and internal departments to ensure timely delivery.

Serve as a key customer liaisoncommunicating proactively, resolving issues, and maintaining strong relationships.

Conduct regular team check-ins to assess performance, identify issues, and implement process improvements.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong understanding of soil science, crop nutrition, and fertility planning.

Proficiency with precision agriculture tools, field mapping, and data interpretation.

Proven experience leading agricultural teams and managing field operations.

Competence in agricultural equipment operation, maintenance, and technology integration.

Excellent communication, organizational, and team-building skills.

Ability to troubleshoot operational challenges and implement effective solutions.

Willingness to work extended hours during peak seasons and perform outdoor physical tasks.

CDLA license preferred or willingness to obtain.

Education and Experience

Bachelors degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred (or equivalent practical experience).

35 years of hands-on crop production experience, emphasizing fertility, soil management, and agronomic best practices.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

This position requires regular physical activity in an outdoor agricultural setting. Candidates must be able to:

Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and reach for extended periods.

Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs (occasionally more with assistance).

Perform repetitive tasks such as planting, harvesting, and packing.

Operate tools, machinery, and equipment safely.

Work extended hours, weekends, and holidays during peak seasons.

Employees may be exposed to:

All weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind, dust).

Loud machinery, vehicles, and power tools (PPE required as needed).

Agricultural materials including fertilizers, chemicals, dust, and pollen.

Qualifications:

Bachelors degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Agriculture, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience).

35 years of hands-on crop production experience with emphasis on fertility and agronomic management.
