Electrical Reliability Engineer


Job description:

The Electrical Reliability Engineer 1 at thePensacola site is responsible for the design & reliability of electrical distribution systems & assets such as, turbogenerator, substations, transformers, switchgears, starters, protection relays, emergency generators, motors, VFDs, UPS & battery backup systems. This individual would be responsible for developing reliability strategies related to low medium & high voltage electrical equipment, providing guidance to internal customers to maintain the reliability of the electrical systems & for supporting continuous improvements objectives.

  • Maintain a high level of reliability of the electrical systems & equipment that impacts site safety & production targets.
  • Serve as site subject matter expert for electrical engineering.
  • Develop & improve asset care strategies that will improve MTBF, lower maintenance cost & increase on-stream reliability.
  • Supports the development of obsolescence & Long-Range Plans, which includes identification of Bad Actor equipment & development of mitigation plans.
  • Develop maintenance & reliability work scope for plant turnarounds to meet site objectives.
  • Encourage & promote a culture that is proactive & personifies innovative ways of solving problems driven by business profitability & bottom-line results.
  • Partner with Subject Mater Experts across the company to establish & champion long- term strategies for Maintenance & Reliability improvements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Own the preventive & predictive maintenance program for low, medium, & high voltage electrical distribution equipment including substations, transformers, protection relays, switchgears, starters, motors, VFDs, UPS systems, emergency generators & site Turbogenerator.
  • Provide oversight & expertise for site electrical safety compliance to NFPA 70E, NEC, IEEE, electrical classification requirements, & application of mechanical integrity & reliability practices.
  • Provides technical support for the maintenance, operation, & troubleshooting of the plant's low, medium, & high voltage systems & equipment.
  • Provide recommendations & justification for equipment upgrades & input to the plant capital plan.
  • Develop & review electrical work scopes for maintenance, turn-around & equipment outages including temporary power plans.
  • Lead & participate in Failure Analysis of electrical equipment & develop corrective actions.
  • Technical reviewer of Management of Change for electrical aspects.
  • Ensure site compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, company standards& recommend corrective actions & improvements.
  • Develop predictive/preventative maintenance guidelines & programs to meet site requirements. Utilize SAP to manage the predictive / preventative maintenance system.
  • Ensure compliance with technical engineering design standards & specification for reconditioning or altering of existing systems & equipment.
  • Develop, implement, & maintain a site motor testing program.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • minimum 3 years of experience in Low, Medium & High Voltage hardware & distribution systems maintenance & reliability in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering studies including load flow, arc flash, surge suppression, relay coordination, ground grid design, transformer sizing, conductor, and cable sizing, etc.
  • Reviewing & approving electrical specifications, drawings & other documentation.
  • Development & implementation of maintenance & reliability programs & procedures.
  • Able to provide design support in engineering standards (NEC, NESC, NEMA, IEEE and ANSI).

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of electrical equipment application, installation & grounding standards.
  • Knowledge of instrument application & installation standards is a plus.
  • Strong understanding & experience with maintenance & reliability work processes.
  • Knowledge & experience with preventive & predictive maintenance practices
  • Lead & participate in formal Root Cause Analysis investigations.
  • Working knowledge of Process Hazard Analysis & Management of Change processes.
  • Ability to multi-task, organize work, & meet timeline requirements.
  • Strategic mindset, creative, flexible, detailed oriented, analytical, strong problem solver & self-starter.
  • Good technical writing & presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of SAP
  • Strong computer skills a must.
