Job description:

Summary:Responsible for the efficient procurement of retail scrap for steelmaking operations. Works under the direction of the Scrap Buyer Manager to minimize overall cost and maximize return for operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Purchase and manage retail scrap within assigned region (12 recycling locations).
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, including peddlers, auto wreckers, and other scrap generators.
Identify and solicit new scrap sources to ensure a consistent supply.
Coordinate with transportation, scrap inspection, accounting, and operations teams to support plant needs.
Manage $46 million in annual purchases across one state/province.

Qualifications:

Minimum of two years of experience in buying or receiving scrap or similar work.
Knowledge of raw material sources and grades.
Familiarity with transportation logistics and scrap yard operations.
Strong negotiation, communication, math, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
High ethical standards and a strong work ethic.
Willingness to travel weekly to maintain vendor relationships and industry connections.
