General Manager


Job description:

Reporting to the President/Owner, the General Manager will lead and scale a $10M civil construction and drill operations business unit, with a total company growth target to $50M from $35M. This role carries full P&L responsibility and oversight of approximately 2025 team members (including 2 Operations Managers and 2 Administrators) across Eastern North Carolina and Charlotte.

Key Responsibilities

Operational & Financial Leadership

  • Own full $10M P&L with responsibility for profitability, forecasting, budgeting, and margin improvement
  • Lead all civil construction and telecom drill operations (foundations, anchors, site prep, tower infrastructure support)
  • Drive SOP implementation, process improvement, equipment utilization, and scalable infrastructure
  • Manage WIP, job costing, billing, cash flow, and percentage-of-completion accounting

Business Development & Growth

  • Serve as senior client contact for telecom carriers, tower companies, GCs, and property owners
  • Lead estimating, quoting, scope development, and contract negotiations
  • Expand market presence and position division for growth to $50M revenue
  • Identify geographic and service line expansion opportunities

Team Leadership

  • Lead and develop PMs, superintendents, drilling foremen, and field crews
  • Foster accountability, safety, and performance culture
  • Recruit and retain top talent; build succession plans

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure OSHA and telecom safety compliance
  • Oversee safety programs, training, incident investigations, and corrective actions
  • Maintain licensing, certifications, and regulatory compliance

Qualifications:

Ideal Profile

  • 10+ years progressive civil construction/telecom infrastructure experience
    • CIVIL experience is a must
  • 5+ years senior leadership with full P&L responsibility
  • Experience operating at ~$25-$50M revenue scale
  • Strong estimating and business development background (this is not a deal breaker, as there is potential to hire an estimator if this person has everything else)
  • Deep understanding of civil construction methods and telecom infrastructure
  • Entrepreneurial mindset - willing to run the division as if it were their own business
  • Comfortable in a family-oriented, fast-growing company environment
  • Open to Culture Index assessment process

Location Preference

Candidate must want to live and operate in Eastern NC, with preference for Charlotte, Lexington, or Goldsboro markets.
